OILY SKIN

Oily skin is a skin type characterized by an overproduction of sebum (the skin’s natural oils). This can result in a shiny or greasy appearance, especially in the T-zone of the face (forehead, nose, and chin).

        MORE ABOUT OILY SKIN

        Typical characteristics of oily skin:

        • Shiny skin: Especially in the T-zone. Appearance of oiliness and shiny surface due increased natural skin oil production (sebum).
        • Enlarged pores: Pores can become larger and more noticeable due to excess oil production.
        • Tendency to appearance of blemishes: Appearance of excess oiliness can clog pores and lead to congested skin with appearance of blemishes, blackheads and pimples.
        • Rough skin texture: The skin may feel thicker and have an uneven texture due to the excess oiliness.
        • Resistant to wrinkles: Due to the extra moisture from natural oil, skin tends to develop visibly fine lines and wrinkles more slowly than dry skin.

        Common causes of oily skin:

        • Genetics: Skin type is often hereditary; if a parent has oily skin, it’s likely you will too.
        • Hormonal changes: Hormonal fluctuations during puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, or use of hormone-based contraceptives can increase oiliness.
        • Climate: Humid or warm environments can increase skin oiliness.
        • Incorrect skincare: Excessive cleansing or use of harsh products can dry out the skin, which may cause skin to produce excess oil as compensation.
Tips for caring for oily skin:

        • Cleansing: Wash your face twice daily with a mild cleanser suited for oily skin. Avoid harsh products that can dry out the skin.
        • Exfoliation: Use a BHA acid like salicylic acid to deeply cleanse pores and reduce oiliness.
        • Moisturizing: Use an oil-free, lightweight moisturizer to keep the skin balanced. Even oily skin needs hydration.
        • Sun protection: Choose a sunscreen formulated to protect the skin without making it oilier.
